It's hard to capture the essence of a tree, but I did my best. Our neighbors, Bob & Mabel Buboltz, have a beautiful magnolia tree that is vibrant every spring!

American Gothic House
Remember this crazy picture? The American Gothic House sits in Eldon, IA. Since we were driving through Eldon on our way from Farmington to Ankeny, we decided it was a good stopping point.
I personally have taken this road hundreds of times and NEVER made the connection that this was here. I'm sure I had seen the signs growing up, just never thought that was the one famous from the picture. We're driving close to the town and my husband says, "Hey, we should stop at the American Gothic House, it's on the sign," and I'm like "The what?" He had to spell it out for me before it clicked somewhere in my brain and I realized that had been there my whole life and I had driven by it soooo many times and didn't even realize. Then I laughed at myself and drove to it so we could get out and take our pictures! :)

In 1930, Grant Wood noticed a small white house built in the Carpenter Gothic architectural style in Eldon, Iowa. Wood decided to paint the house along with "the kind of people I fancied should live in that house." He recruited his sister and his dentist to model for him. Each element was painted separately; the models sat separately and never even stood in front of the house.
It is one of the most parodied artworks within American popular culture.
Okay, so the museum wasn't actually open, so we couldn't buy any of the stuff they would've tried to sell us. We did look through the locked doors at the picture on the wall, so we had an idea of where to stand. And we didn't have a pitchfork so we had to use an old dead weed we found. We tried to look serious, but the sun was really bright and we just kinda look squinty. We had Audrey take the picture of us since no one else was around, so we had to actually kneel on the ground to get ourselves (sort of) in the right place for the house in the background since she's short.
They'll appreciate it when they're older. :)

She was eating a cookie and the goo smeared on her face reminded me of Daddy's goatee and mustache. Couldn't resist a pic.
Does anyone else have a cat like this? We sit down to watch a movie as a family and here comes Chester, plops down on the couch and looks like this . . . ready to watch the movie with us. EVERY TIME!!

A Beautiful Wedding!
Congrats to David and Teresa and their beautiful wedding last weekend. Everything about the day was just wonderful!
I love this snapshot of the busy day. Mother of the groom takes time out to play with her granddaughters - shortly before the ceremony started. Nothing beats Polly Pockets! :)
